this is my second tent, my first was a Hilary 3 room tent lasted almost 10 years of camping. this is a great second tent, very spacious, id say 4adults would fit with 4 air-mattresses, 8 without the mattresses just sleeping bags. perfect for three people or three couples who want there privacy. bigger than one might think, i am 5'7 and i hardly need to bend to get in. will take some time to set-up, and dis-assemble, but the out come is well worth it.

Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Expect the Worst
In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.

Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.

For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.

Domes, Tunnels and Sacks
Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.

Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.

Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

This tent is GREAT! IT'S HUGE! Used it about 5 times this season. This thing is easy to set up, keeps you nice and dry, and looks 100% better than the picture shown when it's setup. Other reviews say it's heavy, but we never really thought about it.I can carry it without any problems and i'm not Miss muscles. You will need another bag though...we bought a big green duffel bag for it and it just makes us love the tent more cause we can fit everything in it without a problem. Excellent price, Excellent product. Looking forward to using it next season too. My 2 and 4 year old boys zip it up and rumble for an hour before bed,this tent takes it with a smile.

Coleman Exponent Northstar X8 Tent Customer Review

I can't say enough about this tent. The floor is extremely rugged, not that you could put a hole in it if you set it up on a stick, but it will handle lots of heavy boot traffic and you can set up table and chairs on it without a worry. The materials are phenomenal. The poles are extremely durable. The fly is awesome. Absolutely no rain can get in unless you are in a hurricane or something. The tent is easy to set up and take down. With that said, you will need to plan on needing two people to set it up. If you got creative one person could probably do it, but not easily. We had trouble setting it up at first because we constructed the frame and then clipped the tent body to the frame. You will need a tall person for this. I am 6' 4" and I had trouble. The remedy for this would be clipping at least the center height clips to the center frame bar before lifting it up and position the side poles in place. Another thing to be aware of when considering to purchase the tent is that the center divider, while a major part can be unzipped like an outer door, it is a permanent divider. This means that there is a permanent rim around the whole inside of the tent where the divider meets the wall. You will never have access to more than one side floor at a time for beds, cots, chairs etc. You will need to think of the two sides of the tent as two separate and permanent rooms. All in all an awesome tent, but you should be thinking long term investment because of the price.

About Coleman
More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. Coleman WeatherMaster Screened 4 Tent Customer Review

An excellent tent for the price.

Easy for one person to put up, but because of the height of the tent, the rain fly is a bit difficult to get in place. Also, the eight rain fly tie down lines tend to get tangled up. I have found that unless there are extremely high wind conditions, you really don't need them, so I just coiled them up and secured them with wire ties.

It has withstood one very heavy rainfall with no noticeable leakage. More than I can say for any other tent I have used.

Ventilation is great. Plenty of screened panels that can be opened. The "hinged" door is nice too. The screened room is a real plus, but it would have been even more so had they extended the tent floor to cover it too.

It is difficult to get it rolled up enough to get it back in the carrying case, but that is true of every tent I have ever owned.

Coleman Tent Kit Customer Review

I bought this kit for my husband after our first camping trip and my husband 1) forgot to bring a mallet and broom and dustpan and 2) the stakes that came with our tent all bent the first time we tried to hammer them in.

It's nice to get it all in one little sack so we don't forget anything. I have since decided a large broom and battery operated hand vac suits my taste better than a little broom and dustpan, but those are still handy to have around.

The stakes in this kit are sturdier than the ones that came with our tent (i.e., they don't bend easily). The mallet works and we have no problem with it.

The stake puller works, but only if the stakes aren't stuck in the ground. The last time we used it, the stakes wouldn't come out and we were afraid plastic heads on the stakes would come off with the stake puller. It would be nice if either the stake heads weren't made of plastic or the stake puller would grip stake body so we could get a grip on the stake and pull.

Other than the problem with removing the stakes, I have no complaints.

Four family members spent 4 days and nights in the Superior National Forest near Ely, Mn. Weather was in the 20's and low 30's at night. With proper heat, the tent was as warm as a cabin. Just keep the windows cracked. Rain fly withstood the couple of inches of snow we received. Deer hunting was pretty good also. We might expand tent city to include another 10x14 or a 9x12 next year. Domes and Tunnels
Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. I purchased this tent last fall, and used it for the first time this Memorial Day Weekend. We were very close to a tornado, we had 60 mph winds and 3 inches of rain, the tent held fine and kept us dry. I have 2 children, we use the 2 rooms of the tent as bedrooms with one large queen airbed in one, and 2 single airbeds in the other. there is still lots of room for gear(although I never could figure out where the storage loft was), and plenty of head room for my 6ft tall husband. I have set the tent up myself, it is a great design and very easy to both set up and break down. I love this tent and would recommend it to anyone.

In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. Tent is soooo spacious. Went camping with my 6 ft 2 in husband and 2 young boys. My husband was able to stand inside the tent without any problems. I was surprised to see we were able to fit 2 queen size mattresses, a portable crib and still had room for our bags and was able to create an isle to get to our beds and bags. Never had any problems with the zippers getting stuck in the door like some reviews had said. Another woman and I were able to put this tent up in 15-20 minutes, we didn't need the men to do this job. The rain fly went on very quickly and easily. Would definitely recommend this tent to someone else. We woke up with a dry tent, no problems with water from morning dew. We did not receive rain, so not sure how it would hold up, but my bet is it would stay dry. Very sturdy tent. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 stars was because one of the tent poles with the rope broke pretty easily. Amazon replaced it very quickly with a new one and we never had any other problems.

i just recieved this tent for my birthday for a 3 day camping trip for memorial weekend. first thing i did was a test set up. very easy setup. could be done with one person if necessay, but easier with two. first thing i noticed after the size was the lack of any dividers. it's large enough for three rooms, and set up that way, but there are no room dividers nor any attachments for such. shouldn't be called a three room tent if it's not seperated. this is why it's only four stars. lots of storage space inside in pockets and loft. also neat little closets on the exterior for shoes and stuff that you want to keep dry, but don't want to bring in the tent itself. i will post an add on review after the trip this weekend.

I received the tent the tent in less than a week even though Amazon showed it out of stock and on back order. The tent is big, fairly heavy ( about 40 pound I guess) but easy to set up. Read the simple instruction before starting to set up the tent. My wife and I set ours up in windy weather in about 30 minutes the first time. I like the zippers they are big and heavy duty. There is a weather covering over the zippers. We are planning a trip From Florida to Washington State in June and July. We will be spending a lot of time in this tent. I think it will be comfortable. The screen room is very nice. I'm 6 foot and can walk around inside without hitting my head. I am very Pleased with this tent.

After receiving this tent (very quickly by the way), my first use came on July 4th. Upon opening the box, I found everything except clear assembly directions and no parts list. I had color coded poles that I had to figure out which ones went where.
Once the mystery was solved, the tent went up like a dream. Very easy to put up, though I suggest buying metal stakes on your own as the ones provided would work in sugar sand but nothing firmer.
Getting in and out of the tent was easy, there is plenty of room for 2 queen air matresses in each of the side areas. leaving plenty of room in the middle for either another bed or storage/living area.
Wasn't too impressed with the room seperation flaps. They hung on 5 hooks over the span of the inside of the tent, so perfect privacy is not possible.
Over, for the price, performance, room and comfort this tent is great.
